Mr. Alphabet's Mighty Resource Room 12

Dear Parents,

Aloha, my name is Mr. Alphabet and I am your child's resource teacher for ELA and Math. Our goal is to collaborate to help your child plug in to the their education in a way that makes them exited to learn. I consider all my students "Geniuses of Hard Work!" and have high expectations of success for each and every one of them. To achieve success, I need to get to know both you and your child. So, please look forward to us working closely together this school year. The ever-changing Covid -19 pandemic presents several challenges to delivering a safe effective education, so our collaboration and keeping an open line of communication is paramount.

I hope and pray that all of you and your loved ones are safe and sound at home and not breaking the rules of social distancing. Each and every one of you has a part to play in keeping your family safe and being a positive addition to society. I very well expect for all of you to keep up with your quest for knowledge by using all of your on-line resources like;

Schedule

The Governor has mandated that all public schools attend 100% face to face. However, due to recent increases in COVID-19 infections, we will be on standby for any mandated changes. Students with an IEP will be afforded the opportunity to attend face to face as long as permitted by law. Having said that, this in no way mandates that you must send your child to school especially if you feel that it represents an increased health risk to you or your family. We have worked diligently to provide a meaningful educational experience whether face to face or on-line.

The current plan is for students to have full days at school and meet face to face while observing approved social distancing protocols. (Subject to change based on State safety guidelines)

  • Mondays - 8:00am - 2:10pm
  • Tuesday - 8:00am - 2:10pm
  • Wednesdays - 8:00am -1:15 pm
  • Thursdays - 8:00am - 2:10pm
  • Friday - 8:00am - 2:10pm

Initially, your child will spend the entire day with me and my two Educational Assistants at least until we receive further guidance from administration.  Internet devices will be provided for those in need and our day will start promptly at 8:00am.

Class Structure

Distance Learning - Currently, distance learning is only available for students with a Doctor's letter stating the medical necessity and a formal application that must be approved by the principal.

Official Meetings
Cisco Webex Business - Review 2021 - PCMag Asia
Webex is the platform we will use to deliver our official IEP meetings virtually. I will send an email invitation to each of you to access our scheduled virtual meetings.

Our first week will consist of assessments to gauge each students current level of academic performance. This will consist of both on-line and a practical / functional assessment. We really need to know what each child's current abilities are to have a baseline for data to address and track IEP goals.

I-Ready will be our universal assessment tool for measuring student academic proficiency level. It is very important that parents allow the student to take the assessment without any coaching, prompting or hints. Assisting your child will give an inflated score that may place their starting point above where the understanding is. The result will be frustration because the lessons will be more advanced than your child is ready for.

Curriculum and  Pacing

Pacing with special needs students is based upon meeting each child where they are emotionally and academically.I  will work to insure that they receive the individualized instruction to satisfy their unique and specific needs. Hawaii DOE curricular approved applications are as follows:

  • Wonders
  • Go Math
  • IXL
  • Kidbiz
  • I-Ready
  • Scratch
  •
In addition, you can go to these additional websites to brush up and challenge yourselves:

Communication

We are using Google Meet as our on-line communication platform it is very simple and easy to use, and will allow us to stay in touch easily. You do not have to have a Google account to use it. If you do have a google account,

I will be updating this page regularly with information and useful information  that you can use to continue your education while we are sheltering in place at home.

Please feel free to reach out tome via e-mail if you need me.

Sincerely,

Mr. Alphabet
