HPD Officer Makes a Difference

Before the fourth graders left for their long-awaited winter break, they had a special surprise visitor from the Honolulu Police Department! Officer Nelson Omandam took some time off to drop off a bag full of sports equipment, which included footballs, cones, basketballs, and flag belts.  Officer Omandam is not a stranger to Alvah Scott.  Two years ago, he was the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program officer assigned to our fifth graders.  Today, officer Nelson is no longer in the D.A.R.E. program, but is still very much involved with H.P.D. and the community.  When he is not in uniform as a police officer, you can find him on the football field, coaching with the i-9 Sports League.  He is also a recently retired Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force Reserve.  We would like to extend a warm Aloha and BIG Mahalo to him, for taking the time to make a difference in our community, and in our children’s lives.
