2. CLSD Literacy Grant: Advancing Reading Excellence
Last year, we successfully introduced our new reading/language arts curriculum, Wonders 2023. Building on this foundation, we are delighted to announce that Alvah Scott Elementary has been awarded a five-year CLSD (Comprehensive Literacy State Development) literacy grant, specifically focused on the "Science of Reading."
This significant grant will allow us to further enhance our literacy program. While the changes may not always be immediately visible, our new Literacy Coach, Mrs. Anya Oyadomari, will be working closely with our teachers, providing professional development and implementing evidence-based strategies to strengthen our reading/language arts instruction. This is an incredible opportunity to ensure that all our students develop into proficient and confident readers.
3. Enhanced "Specials" Program
We are excited to continue offering a diverse and enriching "Specials" program, encompassing Physical Education (PE), Art, Library, Hawaiian Studies, and Guidance. Our goal is to maximize the time students engage with these crucial subjects.
Last year, students participated in "Specials" on a rotating "Wheel" schedule, resulting in an average of one session every seven days. For the upcoming academic year, we have revised the schedule to ensure students attend "Specials" at least once per week. This adjustment will provide more consistent exposure to these valuable subjects, supporting a well-rounded educational experience.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we strive to provide the best possible learning environment for our students. We look forward to a successful and productive academic year.
Sincerely,
