Week of 9/5/23-9/8/23

Hello Room 11 Ohana!
I hope everyone had a beautiful Labor Day weekend...what a nice way to start off the month!
This week will be a short, but busy week.  I am so proud of the children for settling in to the roles and routines of our classroom. Great job!

CONGRATULATIONS!  Our class was the 1st grade class that had the BEST ATTENDANCE RECORD FOR AUGUST! Great job boys and girls! Thank you so much for being in class on time (by 7:55) and for attending school daily! We now have a plaque hanging in our classroom for the whole month of September!  Let's try again this month to have the best attendance record again, so we can keep that plaque hanging!  Keep up the great work families!  Bravo!

Our school is a "Choose Love" school this year.  This week, I will begin doing weekly "Choose Aloha" lessons to teach Courage, Gratitude, Forgiveness and Compassion in Action. Our school will also be enforcing these traits each quarter. This quarter's theme is Courage.

We had our first visit to the library last week!  We enjoyed meeting Mrs. Saito and borrowing 2 books.  Please take care of your books and return them to our classroom by Wednesday, September 13th. Enjoy!

Last week, we began Wonders Unit 1 Week 1. Thank you for practicing the assigned story in your readers and for returning them the next day. We took our first paper/pencil test last Friday, which included reading a short story, answering multiple choice comprehension questions, completing high-frequency word as well as "skill of the week" fill in the blank sentences.  Each week, I will staple a High-Frequency/Oral Vocabulary word list to your child's planner.  Please practice these words, as we will be using them in class as well. Thank you.

Each week, we will continue to do iReady Reading and Math lessons on our ipads.  We all took our baseline diagnostic tests 3 weeks ago and are now set to do our lessons.  We try to aim for 70% and higher as a passing score on our lessons.  Let's work hard!

Let's have another wonderful week families!  Let's keep our lines of communication open as always.  Thank you so much for your support!

Mahalo,
Mrs. Kosaki
